Collections Loader - Trainee Class 2 Driver Loader
Location: Albert Road, Bristol
Salary: £30,639.07 per annum (pay award pending)
Hours: 39 hours per week, Monday–Friday 06:00-14:18

The Role
To work as a Loader within the Collections team while undertaking a structured development programme designed to progress into a Class 2 Driver role. The role provides practical operational experience, develops knowledge of safe working practices, collection operations and customer service, before supporting successful completion of funded Class 2 licence training within an agreed development period.
The post holder will spend the initial period developing competence as a Loader before progressing through Class 2 driver training and assessment, with the expectation of moving into an available Driver position once qualified and competent.
Development Programme
- Undertake an initial period working as a Loader to develop operational knowledge, safe working practices, route operations, customer service skills and experience of frontline service delivery.
- Progress through a structured Class 2 Driver development programme, subject to satisfactory performance, attendance, operational requirements and meeting the Company's eligibility requirements for driver training.
- Following successful completion of the development programme, progress into a substantive Class 2 Driver role, subject to the successful completion of competency assessment, BWC Driver Induction, satisfactory performance and conduct, and the availability of a suitable vacancy in line with operational requirements.
- Employees will be required to enter into the Company's Learning Agreement in relation to the funded Class 2 licence training.

Key Responsibilities
- Carry out loading duties safely and efficiently on allocated collection rounds in accordance with Company procedures, client requirements and safe systems of work.
- Learn and apply safe working practices, waste collection processes, route operations and customer service standards while supporting effective service delivery.
- Work collaboratively with Drivers, Chargehands, Supervisors and other operational colleagues to ensure collections are completed safely and efficiently.
- Maintain high standards of attendance, punctuality, conduct and professionalism throughout the development programme.
- Participate fully in all required training, inductions, toolbox talks and development activities.
- Demonstrate the knowledge, behaviours and practical competence required to progress from Loader to Class 2 Driver within the agreed development period.
- Successfully complete funded Class 2 licence training, including theory, practical driving tests and any associated CPC requirements.
- Carry out daily vehicle checks and driver responsibilities once authorised to undertake driver training and supervised driving activities.
- Report hazards, accidents, near misses and operational issues promptly through the appropriate reporting channels.
- Protect company assets, vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are used responsibly and maintained in good condition.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience working in an operational, outdoor or physically demanding environment (desirable).
- Experience working as part of a team.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude towards learning and personal development.
- Full UK driving licence
- Previous professional driving experience preferred but not essential.
- Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and safe working procedures.
- Willingness to learn new skills and undertake structured development.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Awareness of customer service standards.
- Understanding of manual handling principles (or willingness to learn).
- Awareness of transport legislation, driver responsibilities and safe driving practices.
