Job Description
We are looking to recruit a Collections Logistics Officer to join our team based at our Stafford site. You will join us on a full-time, 2-year fixed term basis and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £29,497.50 per annum.
The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non-departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity.

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for an experienced Collections Logistics Officer to join the Museum team at an exciting time as we progress our Strategy to 2030 and continue the development phase of a National Lottery Heritage Fund supported programme of investment at our Midlands site.
You will assist with object movement, hazard identification and the administration of these tasks, as we prepare our collections to move to a new publicly accessible storage facility. Individual responsibilities will include being a forklift truck operator and a Radiation Protection Supervisor, training for both of which can be provided.
This role will be based at our Stafford site and will work across all three Museum sites as required.

Key Responsibilities Of Our Collections Logistics Officer Include
- Support the development of the Museum’s collection across three sites, including the safeguarding and preparation of objects for movement and wider public benefit
- Support the management of collection hazards, including asbestos, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), mould, guano, etc, through identification, labelling, reporting and remediation (where appropriate)
- Act as one of the Museum’s Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPS)
- Support the Collections Services team on the disassembly, movement and build of aircraft and other large objects onsite and offsite.
- Become familiar with, and apply, the Museum’s Collections Management policies, processes, procedures, systems and standards
- Assist in the implementation, operation and maintenance of Collections Development programmes, including Collections Review, post-review transfers and storage rationalisation
- Attend relevant training courses and liaise with other museum professionals to maintain up to date specialist knowledge regarding hazards in collections and collections management
What we are looking for in our Collections Logistics Officer:
- Experience of working with and developing publicly accessible collections in a museum or heritage environment
- Practical experience of managing hazards in museum collections, such as asbestos, PCBs, mould, etc.
- Experience of handling, moving, packing and transporting a variety of museum objects, including large and complex items
- Displays enthusiasm around activities, adopting a positive approach when interacting with others, and motivating team members
- Listens to, understands, respects and accepts different views, ideas and ways of working.
- Uses experience and knowledge of standard practices, procedures or customs to evaluate problems and make appropriate decisions/provide appropriate advice
- Is able to organise own activities to deliver to expected standards and targets
- Is receptive and/or pro-actively identifies and contributes to new ideas and approaches, and adapts accordingly
- Demonstrates the appropriate level of technical and/or professional knowledge to fulfil the requirements of the role
- Understands the Museum’s purpose, vision and strategic objectives, and how their own role, their team and other teams within the Museum, supports their achievement
