College Protection Officer

Brighton College is seeking to appoint a College Protection Officer to join our dedicated and experienced team based in the heart of Brighton & Hove. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a leading educational institution renowned for its commitment to excellence and the wellbeing of its pupils, staff, and visitors.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a secure, courteous, and professional environment across the campus, ensuring that the highest standards of safety and care are upheld at all times.

Hours Of Work

  • 40 hours per week (Monday to Sunday) on a rota system between the hours of 06:30 and 23:00.
  • Five out of seven days per week, including some weekends and bank holidays.
  • Depending on the shift worked within the rota system, the actual hours worked in a week may be greater or less than 40. However, when averaged over the rota period (currently seven weeks) hours worked will not be more than 40 per week.

College Protection Officer Duties

As a College Protection Officer, you will serve as a vital point of contact for visitors, staff, pupils, on-site residents, and external contractors. Your role involves:

  • Ensuring safety through proactive security measures
  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Managing access and egress
  • Monitoring the campus
  • Responding swiftly to emergencies
  • Liaising with event organisers
  • Patrolling the premises

You will also uphold the College’s commitment to safeguarding and security.

Specific Duties

  • Greeting visitors
  • Managing traffic flow
  • Ensuring staff and pupil safety
  • Conducting patrols
  • Responding to alarms
  • Handling reports
  • Ensuring buildings are secure

You will also participate in mandatory training, maintain security protocols, and respond to various requests from management to ensure the safety and security of all campus users.

College Protection Officer Requirements

  • Experience in customer service or a related security role (essential)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in demanding situations
  • Friendly, approachable, and tactful manner
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and bank holidays
