Command and Control Officer

Contract type: Permanent

Rank/grade: C Salary: Starting at £30,190 + £6,920 London Weighting + 23% unsocial hours allowance + 10% contract hours

Directorate/department: Local Policing / Joint Complex Coordination Room (JCCR)

About the Team

Based in the Force Control Room, our team operates 24/7, serving as the backbone of operational policing. We handle emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinate resources, and maintain seamless communication between officers, public, and partner agencies—all while upholding the highest standards of resilience, adaptability, and dedication.


About the Role

As a Command and Control Operator, you will:

  • Respond to emergency/non-emergency calls, assessing risk using THRIVE+ assessments.
  • Log incidents accurately on systems like CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) and Niche.
  • Deploy resources efficiently in line with policy and operational needs.
  • Communicate clearly via radio and telephone with front-line officers.
  • Support critical incidents and safeguarding through heightened collaboration and information handling.

Responsibilities

Your day-to-day duties include:

  • Triaging calls while applying THRIVE+ risk assessment frameworks.
  • Maintaining accurate records on Command and Control systems (CAD, Niche).
  • Coordinating resource deployment (e.g., patrols, emergency services) as needed.
  • Ensuring clear and consistent communication with officers and staff.
  • Best-practice scalating of safeguarding concerns through systematic processes.

Requirements

Your application will be evaluated against these core criteria:

  • Excellent communication skills—written and verbal.
  • Ability to work under pressure, particularly in high-stakes situations.
  • Self-reliance & autonomy—capacity to operate with minimal supervision while adhering to procedures.
  • Accurate data collection and reporting experience.
  • Strong IT proficiency: Microsoft Office (especially Outlook, Word), adaptability to new systems, and keyboard skills.
  • UK residency requirement: Applicants must have continuously resided in the UK for the last three years due to RV/CTC vetting transparency.

Applications will be assessed through a Competency-Based Interview (Level 1 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework). Successful candidates are invited to:
