Location: Orpington, Kent (BR6) Employment Type: Full-Time | Permanent
Are you a commercially minded accountant who enjoys getting under the skin of a business rather than simply reporting the numbers?
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Accountant to support the financial and operational performance of a complex healthcare facilities management contract. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic commercial environment and enjoys partnering with operational teams to drive business improvement.
This role is ideally suited to a commercially focused accountant with experience in field services, facilities management, engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or contracting environments, with exposure to PFI (Private Finance Initiative) contracts highly desirable.
About the Contract and Business
We deliver critical hard facilities management (FM) services within a large healthcare environment, responsible for:
- Planned and reactive maintenance
- Lifecycle asset replacement programmes
- Building fabric maintenance and repairs
- Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services
- Medical gas systems
- Fire and life safety systems
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Theatre and specialist healthcare environments
- Statutory compliance and regulatory maintenance
- Alterations and project works

The Role
We are looking for a Commercial Accountant who can:
- Interpret financial information
- Understand operational performance
- Drive improvements across the contract
You will work closely with operational managers, commercial teams, and the client, providing meaningful financial insight that supports decision-making and improves contract performance.
Duties involve:
- Discussing contracts, payment mechanisms, and performance measures
- Presenting commercial positions to both internal stakeholders and customers
Key Responsibilities
-Develop annual budgets and quarterly forecasts. -Produce monthly financial reporting and variance analysis. -Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve business performance. -Partner with operational teams to drive profitability and efficiency. -Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital performance. -Support invoicing processes and debt recovery activities. -Review and challenge subcontractor applications for payment. -Assist with contract negotiations, claims, and dispute resolution. -Monitor contractual performance and payment mechanisms. -Provide commercial and financial support to senior management. -Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

About You
We’re seeking someone who recognises that commercial accounting is about influencing business performance, not just producing reports.
You’ll have:
- Strong commercial accounting experience within field services, infrastructure, FM, engineering, utilities, or contracting environments.
- Experience developing annual budgets, forecasts, and detailed variance analysis.
- Strong cash flow management experience.
- Experience working with subcontractors and reviewing applications for payment.
- An understanding of contracts, payment mechanisms, and commercial frameworks.
- Experience supporting negotiations and dispute resolution.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to challenge and influence stakeholders.
- The ability to translate financial data into operational actions and business improvements.
