Octopus Energy • London • Full Time We are seeking a highly motivated, qualified accountant to join our growing Finance team at Octopus Energy Services. This role sits at the intersection of finance and supply chain, giving you ownership over cost of sales and inventory management, and how they impact our reporting. Reporting into the Supply Chain Finance Business Partner, you’ll work closely with Finance and Supply chain to provide day-to-day finance management, whilst bringing fresh ideas to tackle challenges and improve how our business is run. We are a fast-paced, rapidly evolving business, and we need someone who is eager to dive into the details, get hands-on, and rapidly expand their experience. If you are looking for a standard, behind-the-scenes accounting role, this isn't it! This role offers a real opportunity to work across business functions and have a tangible impact on driving process improvements and identifying both strategic opportunity and commercial risk. ⚪ What you'll do: Drive Month-End Operations: Prepare the monthly divisional and consolidated management accounts for Supply Chain, including assisting in the calculation and review of the monthly Cost of Sales, ensuring accurate cost allocations for installed items. Manage Inventory Lifecycle: Manage inventory-related transactions (including purchases, allocations, returns, and write-offs), ensuring they are accurately reflected in the general ledger. Variance & Valuation Deep Dives: Oversee the day-to-day reconciliation of stock counts against inventory records, taking the lead on investigating, explaining, and resolving any quantity and value variances. You will also support the team in periodic reviews of inventory valuation, including obsolescence and net realisable value assessments. Commercial Business Partnering Experience: Gain valuable cross-functional experience as you liaise with operational and finance stakeholders to review financial results, delivering clear variance reporting, comprehensive documentation, and corrective journal entries where necessary. Future-Focused Analytics: Look ahead by assisting with the monthly re-forecasting narrative and the annual budgeting process, while also building robust KPI tracking models. Process Evolution & Problem Solving: Assist with the review of existing finance processes to design and implement continuous improvements that strengthen financial control. We want your fresh ideas to help us build better ways of working! Financial Control & Audit Leadership: Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure the absolute integrity of the general ledger and financial records. You will lead the preparation of complex year-end reconciliations and audit requests, acting as a primary point of contact for inventory/cost of sales and other supply chain queries throughout all audits. 🟡 What you'll need: Professional Qualification: Must be a fully or recently qualified accountant (ICAS, ICAEW/ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or a highly regarded foreign equivalent recognized in the UK). Experience: 2–3+ years of relevant experience in a similar cost accounting role, commercial finance with inventory/cost of sales experience, or similar analytical/accounting role. Industry Knowledge: Strong proven experience in a business with physical inventory (e.g., retail, manufacturing, or services with hardware installation). Technical Skills: Advanced Excel skills, including data analysis, and financial modeling. Experience with financial accounting software (NetSuite experience is highly desirable). Communication & Track Record: Proven ability to effectively, confidently, and commercially communicate and present financial data to stakeholders across both finance and operational teams. Mindset: Highly proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working autonomously with a rigorous level of attention to detail and accuracy. 💚 Why else you'll love it here 💚 • 💰 Wondering what the salary for this role is? I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
