Administrative Role – Highway Maintenance Commercial Support

Location: UK-wide (based at M Group Highways offices) Employment Type: Fixed-term / Permanent (to be confirmed in offer) Grade/Level: Entry to Intermediate / IND3


About the Role

This role provides a structured opportunity to develop professionally through structured training, clear progression pathways, and a supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to thrive. You’ll support operational teams by managing project data, liaising with clients, and upholding governance standards—all while embedding our client-first, safety-focused culture.


What You’ll Be Doing

Core Responsibilities

  • Data Management:

    • Extract and input information from electronic returns and paper documentation into commercial management systems.
    • Process client applications, ensuring accurate submissions and timely responses.
  • Query & Compliance:

    • Identify data gaps, inconsistencies, or ambiguities and raise queries with stakeholders.
    • Maintain key project data schedules, aligning with guidelines from line managers.commercial leads.
  • Communication & Relationships:

    • Work with operational staff to follow up on overdue returns or ad hoc requests.
    • Escalate workload issues or deadlines to senior team members promptly.
  • Lifecycle Understanding:

    • Familiarise yourself with project phases (planning, implementation, closure) and adapt your role according to progress.
    • Learn and apply project-related governance rules as outlined in M Group’s policy frameworks.
  • Continual Development:

    • Complete all mandatory training on the M Group portal.
    • Stay updated on new/refresher courses relevant to your responsibilities.

Other Duties

  • Collaborate across teams to fulfil additional, reasonable tasks as needed (line-manager-approved).
  • All activities must adhere strictly to M Group’s standards, procedures, and policies.

What You’ll Bring

Essential:

  • Strong IT skills, with hands-on proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Ability to manage tasks independently, learn new systems, and adapt to project changes.
  • Demonstrated learning agility.

Desirable:

  • Background in infrastructure, construction, or allied industries (e.g., project coordination, operational admin).
  • Familiarity with systems like:
    • Finance (e.g. SAP, NetSuite)
    • Purchasing/Payroll
    • Stock management
    • Commercial management (e.g. CMS, TradeNine)
  • Confidence with digital tools (e.g. e-signing, CRM systems) or familiarity from past roles.
