Commercial Analyst
Commercial Analyst – Contract Management Team
Hugely exciting opportunity to work in the Contract Management Team at Octopus Energy.
About the Role
The Contract Management Team is responsible for validating all metering invoices (totaling £32 million/month) for Octopus Energy. Key focus areas include:
- Saving the business money through corrective measures and disputing inaccurate charges.
- Supporting business operations to meet contractual requirements and maintain operational efficiency.
- Ensuring service delivery alignment with agreed contracts.
The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment that values detail orientation, independence, organisation, and self-motivation, with strong communication skills. Strong data literacy is also essential, particularly knowledge of Kraken, ECOES, Xoserve, and broader energy sector practices.
This is a small, dynamic team where you’ll work closely with third-party suppliers while supporting contractual and operational needs.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with MAPs (Measurement and Administration Providers) to review:
- Meter rental processes
- Premature removal charges
- Lost meter management (as defined in contracts)
- Analyse third-party data to identify fiscal inaccuracies and savings opportunities.
- Monitor key risks, issues, and dependencies, offering analytical solutions and escalating as required.
- Support cross-stakeholder process improvements by:
- Assessing existing workflows (metering, contract services)
- Recommending optimisations
- Implementing scalable best practices
- Provide regular performance updates, ensuring alignment with broader team strategy.

What You’ll Need
Technical & General Skills:
- Sharp analytical ability, with attention to contractual & billing precision.
- Knowledge of smart metering assets, including MAPs, manufacturers, and supply chains.
- Strong on-the-ground communication skills** to liaise with operational teams and contractors.
- Ability to streamline complex processes with an eye for long-term improvements.
- A deeper understanding of the energy market, tools like Kraken, ECOES, and Xoserve, plus data flows.
Technical Proficiencies:
- Proficient in SQL and Python for querying and analysing large datasets.
- Experience with managing peer-to-peer blockchain data is a plus.
