Commercial Analyst
Commercial Analyst – Contract Management Team
About the Role
This is a hugely exciting opportunity to join the Contract Management Team as a Commercial Analyst.
Within the team, we are responsible for:
- Validating all metering invoices for Octopus Energy, reviewing invoices totaling £32 million per month.
- Preventing unnecessary expenditure by identifying corrective measures and disputing incorrect charges.
- Supporting the business with contractual requirements, ensuring operational elements are maintained and service delivery is fully met.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Detail-oriented, able to work independently and thrive with minimal direction.
- Organised, self-motivated, and a strong communicator.
- Passionate about data, with a solid understanding of Kraken, ECOES, Xoserve, and the wider energy market.
The role involves working closely with a small team, liaising with third-party suppliers, and managing contractual requirements across different levels of the business.
What You Will Do
- Work closely with MAPs (Market Actuators Provider) to review meter rental, premature removal charges, and lost meter processes—all as defined in the contracts.
- Analyse third-party data to ensure accuracy and uncover potential monetary savings.
- Identify, manage, and escalate key risks, issues, and dependencies, proposing intelligent solutions where necessary.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate and improve existing processes in contractual services—recommending enhancements and advances.
- Provide regular progress updates and performance reports, highlighting their strategic alignment with the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
