Commercial Director Opportunity

untypical have an opportunity for a Commercial Director to join our Eastern region, based from our office in Bedford on a permanent contract.

It’s a fantastic time to join a talented team in a growing housebuilder. The region will be operational on our sites across the Eastern Region and a strong Land pipeline.

This Senior post will lead an established Commercial team of Quantity Surveyors, Buyers, Trainees and support a Senior Estimator with new site viability. This post is responsible for the overall management and performance of the Commercial function in our Eastern Region with cost control and margin improvement key deliverables.

The Commercial Director post sits on our Senior Management board.

Duties

  • Monitoring business costs, ensuring accuracy of cost reports and analysing variances, seeking opportunity to mitigate cost increases through innovation and alternative strategies
  • Attending internal adjudications and reviews to ensure cost issues are properly processed
  • Manage cost information including tracking of inflation on pipeline developments
  • Provide a Commercial overview of all land and build cost estimates including cost benchmarks
  • Driving down build costs without compromising quality and safety
  • Seek opportunities for margin improvement
  • Preparation of monthly Commercial board reports
  • Managing the surveying and buying function
  • Work alongside with the Senior Management Team to ensure a flow of new sites into the business

Skills and Experience Required

  • Experience in a Commercial leadership post, within housebuilding.
  • Leading a team with credibility and support
  • A people focused management style that can develop others
  • Comfortable dealing with legacy contract management and contra charging
  • Successfully contributing to, and meeting a strategic vision
