Job Description: Commercial Director for Data

You will lead commercial success for Version 1’s data business, combining data sales expertise with strategic breadth. Reporting to leadership, you will collaborate across sales, pre-sales, technical teams, marketing, and partners to grow revenue through data solutions—ensuring alignment with evolving market trends, client needs, and AI/data innovations.


About the Role

The Commercial Director for Data will:

  • Take ownership of commercial outcomes for Version 1’s data offerings.
  • Drive hybrid commercial leadership, balancing end-to-end sales support with high-level strategic insight.
  • Evaluate client demand, refine messaging, and perpetuate market leadership in data-driven consulting solutions.
  • Foster high-impact growth in line with group revenue targets through selling strategy, marketing alignment, and tactical expertise.

You must combine commercial, technical, and consultative acumen to translate data complexities into tangible business value for prospective clients.

Key Responsibilities

Support Sales Opportunities

  • Assist sales leads in qualifying and managing data solution opportunities.
  • Deliver specialist sales insights to align customer needs with Version 1’s portfolio, supporting:
    • Bid production, technical presentations, and contractual negotiations.
  • Collaborate with marketing, delivery, and partner teams to enhance demand-generation efforts.

Customer Engagement & Consultative Selling

  • Directly engage clients to showcase Version 1’s capabilities in:
    • Data engineering, analytics, AI/ML, and cloud platforms.
  • Work with pre-sales and technical teams to tailor solutions to client requirements—ensuring clarity in:
    • Proposals, tender responses, and customer presentations.
  • Refine Version 1’s data value proposition, emphasizing differentiators and best practices.

Go-to-Market Activities

  • Develop and implement strategic go-to-market initiatives with Sales leadership and Data & AI Service Lines
  • Create custom collateral, pitch decks, and value messaging targeting specific sectors (Government, Financial Services, Private Sector).
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and market dynamics to support consistent acquisition strategies.

Partner & Ecosystem Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Azure, AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, and Oracle to evolve competitive offerings.
  • Align sales commitments with execution capabilities across delivery teams.
  • Identify co-selling opportunities with ecosystem partners to maximize customer value.

Performance & Reporting

  • Track pipeline metrics and ensure accurate sales forecasting/reporting.
  • Foster achievement of TCV and Revenue KPIs in the Data Service Line, working alongside Sales Leads.
  • Provide data-driven insights to refine offerings based on evolving customer needs.

Qualifications

Essential Experience

  • B2B data technology sales (data platforms, analytics, or cloud ecosystems).
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Azure Data Services, AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, Oracle, Power BI
  • Deep technical understanding of data engineering, analytics, AI/ML, and cloud ecosystems.
  • Ability to articulate foundational concepts to senior stakeholders (CIOs, CTOs, Data/Analytics Heads).
  • Collaboration with technical pre-sales, delivery, and marketing teams.
  • Strong documentation and prioritization skills.
