Commercial Director

About Hartlepool United Football Club:

Hartlepool United Football Club is entering an exciting new chapter under ambitious ownership, with a clear vision to build a sustainable, high-performing football club both on and off the pitch.

Alongside its sporting ambitions, the club is investing in its commercial operation, strengthening relationships within the local business community and creating new opportunities for long-term growth.

To support this next phase, the club is looking to appoint an experienced commercial leader who can drive commercial growth, build strategic partnerships and help shape the club's long-term commercial future.

The Impact You'll Make:

Hartlepool United is looking for a commercially driven leader to develop and grow the club's commercial operation during an exciting period of investment and transformation.

This role will take ownership of the club's commercial strategy, driving revenue growth through sponsorship, partnerships and wider business development, while working closely with ownership and the existing commercial team to build a modern, sustainable commercial function.

Depending on your experience, you will have the opportunity to shape the role around your strengths, whether that's leading the commercial department or taking broader responsibility across the club's business operations. The common goal is finding someone who combines strategic thinking with a willingness to remain close to delivery, leading partnership sales, developing long-term commercial relationships and ensuring partners receive genuine value from working with the club.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
