Commercial Finance Manager - Global Commercial & Operations

The Role

ATG has consolidated commercial and operations into a single global organisation under a combined COO. That gives us one team accountable for the full commercial and operational performance of the business across Arts & Antiques (‘A&A’) and Industrial & Commercial (‘I&C’), US and Europe, sales and marketplace operations. It also creates the need for a finance partner who can work across that whole footprint and bring a coherent financial view to the COO leadership team.

You'll be the finance partner to the COO leadership team, covering commercial performance across A&A and I&C, and the operational functions that sit underneath them — sales, account management, customer service, and marketplace operations. Your job is to own the commercial and operational financial narrative for the global org: what's happening to revenue and retention by segment, where the cost-to-serve pressure points are, what levers the COO has, and what the realistic trajectory looks like.

This role needs someone robust. The COO leadership team are experienced operators who know their businesses deeply. You need to add genuine insight, push back when the numbers tell a different story, and drive accountability on performance across both commercial and operational lines.

If you're someone who reports numbers without opinion, this isn't the right fit. If you're someone who challenges, questions, and brings a point of view to every conversation, we want to talk.

Given the nature of the role, we are also looking for someone who will be open to some flexibility in their working hours to accommodate and support collaboration across our US market.

Why This Role Matters

Bringing commercial and operations together under a single COO is a structural change for ATG. It means finance needs a partner who can see the whole picture — revenue, retention, cost-to-serve, operational efficiency — and translate it into decisions the COO leadership team can act on. That requires someone who brings clarity to ambiguous situations, challenges optimistic assumptions constructively, and is comfortable saying "the numbers don't support that" when they don't. This is a partnering role, not a reporting role — and the partnership only works if finance has genuine credibility and independence.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Commercial Performance Partnering

  • Own the global commercial financial narrative across A&A and I&C: monthly variance analysis, year-to-go forecast, and strategic performance commentary.
  • Know the drivers cold — retention, lots and items sold, ALV, take rate, VAS attach, commission trends — and be able to explain what's moving and why across segments.
  • Track seller and buyer retention as the leading indicators of marketplace health.
  • Understand churn drivers and competitive dynamics across segments (including white-label alternatives in I&C), and what it takes to protect and grow the base.
  • Monitor monetisation depth across the portfolio: VAS penetration (atgPay, atgShip), fixed fee trends, and pricing realisation.
  • Identify opportunities to expand revenue per customer without increasing churn risk.
  • Support the COO leadership team on strategic commercial decisions: pricing changes, competitive response, new business investment, and contract renewals for key accounts across both segments.

Operations Partnering

  • Partner the operational functions reporting into the COO — sales, account management, customer service, and marketplace operations — providing financial insight on cost-to-serve, productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Build and maintain a unified view of cost-to-serve across segments and geographies, identifying where operational investment is paying back and where it isn't.
  • Support the COO leadership team on operational initiatives: headcount planning, organisational change, service-level economics, and cross-region cost optimisation.

Reporting & Forecasting

  • Prepare the commercial and operations sections of monthly management reporting, Board packs, and executive performance reviews.
  • Own the commercial and operations elements of the budget and reforecast process, building bottom-up forecasts with the COO leadership team and stress-testing assumptions across segments and geographies.
  • Partner with the Director of BI & Reporting and Commercial Analytics team to ensure commercial and operational KPIs (including Salesforce CRM data on customer health) are integrated into the performance dashboards.
  • Use AI tools (Claude, TextQL) for analysis, forecasting support, and reporting efficiency.

Skills and Experience

  • Qualified accountant (CPA, CIMA, ACA, ACCA) or equivalent, with 4–8 years of commercial finance or FP&A experience.
  • Experience in a B2B marketplace, SaaS, or platform business is a strong advantage. Understanding of retention economics, unit economics, and recurring revenue models.
  • Strong commercial instinct. You understand the numbers and you ask "so what?" — every time.
  • Robust stakeholder management at senior leadership level. You'll partner directly with the COO leadership team — experienced operators with strong opinions. Diplomacy matters, but so does conviction.
  • Strong financial modelling and forecasting skills. Ability to build credible bottom-up forecasts and scenario models.
  • Comfortable working across time zones and geographies. Stakeholders span the US, UK, and continental Europe — flexibility on meeting hours is part of the role.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI and modern finance tools. You'll use Claude for analysis and TextQL for marketplace data queries as part of your standard workflow.
  • Desirable: experience partnering combined commercial and operations functions, exposure to cost-to-serve / unit economics analysis, or familiarity with Salesforce/CRM data.
