Commercial Gas Engineer

# Commercial Gas Engineer – Fully Remote (Midlands Coverage)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Gas Engineer to join our expanding team of service engineers. This fully remote role requires a full UK driving licence, as you’ll travel across our commercial clients in the Midlands to carry out planned and reactive maintenance.

With Thermatic Technical FM, you’ll provide nationwide hard FM services to large commercial accounts. Our mobile engineers are supported by head office account teams to deliver reactive breakdown support and planned maintenance for our clients.


Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Execution:

    • Conduct all aspects of domestic and commercial gas installing, commissioning, fault finding, and maintenance, including servicing and repairing both gas and oil heating systems.
    • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance in line with Thermatic’s PPM schedules, guided by the Help Desk or management.
    • Complete basic facilities maintenance tasks as required by clients.
  • Client Support:

    • Act as a second-man to support colleagues, ensuring smooth operations.
    • Adhere to SLAs (Service Level Agreements) by attending premises within agreed timeframes.
    • Maintain positive client relationships through professional on-site interactions.
    • Assist office staff by providing accurate quotations and sourcing supplier supplier quotations for additional works.
    • Raise technical and situational reports where required.

  • Safety & On-Call Commitments:
    • Participate in a 24-hour call-out rota (max. 1 week in 4).
    • Escalate major site issues or incidents via the appropriate channels within deadlines.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Gas & Oil Experience:

    • Gas-Safe certified (all commercial/industrial codes: CPA1, CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1, CODNCO1, CIGA1, ICPN1, COMCAT1-5).
    • Oftec-certified Oil Fired Heater specialist.
    • LPG certification.
    • Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, Building Environmental, and Electrical Services (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning).
  • Health & Safety & DM&V:

    • Sound understanding of H&S obligations for maintenance work.
    • Basic plumbing and building material expertise.
    • Asbestos Awareness certification.
    • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable (Bonus) Qualifications

  • CSCS card
  • IPAF & PASMA
  • FGas Category 4
  • Part P Electrical certificate

Location & Workload

  • Main Location: Fully remote, covering the Midlands region via vehicle.
  • Standard Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm (40-hour weeks) with ad-hoc shifts (early/late/overnight) needed for client emergency breakdowns.
  • On-Call Rota: Mandatory (max. 1 week in 4, Friday to Thursday).
