Job Description
Purpose of Job
To deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, and repair works on commercial gas, heating, and mechanical systems across a multi-site portfolio. Operating from a fully equipped company van, the engineer will ensure all plant and equipment remain safe, compliant, and operational while providing excellent customer service and maintaining the highest standards of health and safety.
The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of commercial gas systems and associated mechanical plant, with the ability to diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and manage subcontractors where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on commercial gas and heating systems in accordance with maintenance schedules, statutory requirements, and asset lists.
- Attend and rectify reactive maintenance calls, breakdowns, and emergency repairs across a mobile portfolio of client sites.
- Diagnose, fault find, and repair commercial boilers, burners, water heaters, warm air units, radiant heaters, pipework systems, pumps, pressurisation units, and associated mechanical equipment.
- Conduct servicing, testing, commissioning, and certification of commercial gas appliances and systems.
- Ensure all gas installations and maintenance activities are completed in accordance with current Gas Safety Regulations, industry standards, and company procedures.
- Identify plant faults, defects, and performance issues, providing recommendations for remedial actions and system improvements.
- Ensure suitable spare parts and materials are available to complete both planned and reactive maintenance activities. Provide parts lists and estimated timescales for remedial works as required.
- Complete all service reports, statutory certification, maintenance records, and documentation accurately and within required timescales.
- Operate Permit to Work (PTW) and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures in accordance with company and client requirements.
- Prepare and follow Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) to ensure safe systems of work are maintained at all times.
- Monitor and supervise specialist subcontractors where required, ensuring work is completed safely, professionally, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients, site representatives, colleagues, and subcontractors.
- Ensure all work areas, plant rooms, and service locations are left clean, tidy, safe, and secure following completion of works.
- Promote and maintain a safe and healthy working environment, including the correct use of company uniform and PPE at all times.
- Present a professional image of the company to clients and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with contractual KPIs, SLAs, and performance targets.
- Accurately update CAFM systems such as Maximo with maintenance records, PPM completion details, reactive works information, and asset data.
- Produce near-miss reports, dynamic risk assessments, and detailed maintenance records where required, challenging and escalating unsafe practices where necessary.
- Support the wider engineering team and undertake additional duties as directed by management.

Essential Qualifications

- Valid Commercial Gas qualifications including CODNCO1 (or equivalent), CIGA1, CORT1, ICPN1, and TPCP1/TPCP1A.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Relevant City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Heating Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline.
