Commercial Director

Location: South West (UK)
Package: Base Circa £130k - £160k (Negotiable) + Significant Bonus + Benefits + Options

Role Overview

We are seeking an exceptional Commercial Director to join a growing (FMCG) Retail business operating across the UK and European markets. With established retailer relationships and a diverse product portfolio, the business is poised for significant expansion. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Commercial Director will be a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for shaping and executing the commercial strategy that drives sustainable revenue growth, profitability, and market expansion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive revenue growth strategy across all channels and territories (UK & EU).
  • Identify and pursue strategic partnerships and new market opportunities to expand reach and revenue streams, with a primary focus on UK and European retail.
  • Lead market expansion and category growth initiatives by identifying emerging trends, new customer segments, and additional retail channels.
  • Oversee pricing models, contract negotiations, and commercial strategies to optimise profitability.
  • Shape and execute data-driven commercial initiatives that support customer acquisition, retention, and revenue growth.
  • Establish and refine outbound sales strategies to generate demand and close high-value deals, particularly within the UK and European retail sectors.
  • Optimise sales enablement strategies, ensuring the commercial team is equipped with the necessary tools, resources, and product knowledge.
  • Hold full accountability for the company's revenue performance, leading and developing the sales organisation to deliver ambitious growth targets.
  • Align sales, marketing, and product functions to ensure a cohesive and customer-focused commercial approach.
  • Champion cross-functional collaboration, ensuring product development, brand strategy, customer insight, and sales execution are fully integrated.
  • Work closely with departmental leaders to respond effectively to market trends, retailer requirements, and consumer demand.

Required Experience

  • FMCG Expertise: Deep understanding of FMCG retail dynamics, with a proven ability to build strategic partnerships with major customers across the UK and EU.
  • Scaled Growth Track Record: Demonstrated history of leading an SME business through accelerated growth (e.g., from £20m to £80m in turnover).
  • Market Share & Turnover Growth: Evidenced achievements in growing market share and increasing turnover within competitive retail environments.
  • Commercial Acumen: A data-driven leader with strategic thinking and strong execution capabilities, combining analytical rigour with a focus on customer relationships to drive performance.
