Commercial Heat Network Engineer
As a Commercial Heat Network Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring our heat networks operate efficiently, safely and in line with regulatory requirements. Working within the Compliance and Energy Team, you'll support the effective operation, maintenance and performance of our communal and district heating systems across our portfolio.
The Commercial Heat Network Engineer will work closely with internal teams, contractors, consultants and managing agents to optimise heat network performance, improve customer outcomes and support compliance with industry standards and emerging regulations, including Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme (HNTAS) requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with substantial experience in heat networks, building services engineering, district heating, energy centres and commercial heating systems who enjoys combining technical expertise with stakeholder management and contract oversight. The Commercial Heat Network Engineer will act as NHG's eyes and ears on site, helping us deliver safe, efficient and reliable heating services to our residents.
How you’ll do it
- Support the contract management of installation, maintenance and operation of heat network equipment, including Boilers, Chillers, Fan coil units, HIU’s, Valves Meters, water boosters PAYG devices & metering systems
- Audit maintenance, servicing, commissioning and repair works across commercial heating systems, ensuring compliance with legislation, contractual requirements and industry best practice.
- Monitor heat network performance through data analysis, energy balancing, KPI reporting, remote BMS monitoring and contractor performance reviews.
- Work closely with consultants, contractors and operational stakeholders to identify underperforming systems, resolve issues and improve network efficiency.
- Support organisational readiness for HNTAS and other regulatory requirements, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance monitoring and audit activities
- Attend sites and stakeholder meetings, support outage management, contribute to plant replacement strategies and provide technical advice across the business.

The ideal candidate

Pending confirmation of legislative changes, this role may require a qualification to demonstrate competence. If not already qualified, there may be an expectation to study towards a professional qualification.
Essential:
- Significant experience within the heating, energy or building services sector, with strong exposure to communal heating systems, heat networks or district heating schemes
- Experience of building services engineering within district and community heating systems or large-scale plant rooms and energy centres
- CIBSE CP1 qualified or willing to work towards
- Previous experience in a service and maintenance environment
- Ability to interpret and utilise heat meter data and produce reports that translate technical information into meaningful insights
- Strong contractor management, stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and accurate data management.
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Valid Commercial and Domestic Gas qualifications including COCN1, CIGA1, ICPN1, TPCP1/1A, CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1 and HTR1 (with a minimum of six months remaining before renewal)
- Experience and knowledge of heating control systems is also preferred. (Trend and equivalent)
