Commercial Litigation Associate
Associate – Commercial Litigation & Dispute Resolution, London
The Opportunity
William James Recruitment is instructed on an exclusive search for an Associate (3–5 years’ PQE) to join the London office of a highly regarded international disputes practice.
This role offers exposure to high-value, complex commercial litigation with a strong international and cross-border dimension, acting for financial institutions, corporates, funds, trustees, and high-net-worth individuals. The practice regularly handles matters involving multiple jurisdictions and overseas assets, but the work is London-led and City-facing.
The position would suit a disputes lawyer looking to step away from rigid City structures while maintaining the quality, complexity, and profile of work.
The Firm
Our client is a long-established international law and professional services firm, advising global corporates, financial institutions, investment funds, and private clients. The London office operates as a key disputes hub, frequently instructed by major UK and international firms and institutions on complex, high-stakes litigation.
The Team
The London disputes group is a lean, senior team comprising Partners, Senior Counsel, a Senior Associate, and dedicated support. Partners are former City and international firm lawyers with deep experience in complex litigation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
