Commercial Manager

Location: Hybrid Working (Midlands-based with travel to operational sites as required)

Salary: £65k + car allowance and bonus

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Manager to join a leading organisation specialising in high value logistics and manufacturing. This role is ideal for a commercially minded professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, partnering with operational and business development teams to drive growth, manage risk, and maximise contract performance.

You will play a key role throughout the entire contract lifecycle, from supporting new business opportunities and bid activity through to contract negotiation, delivery support, and contract close-out. The successful candidate will provide pragmatic commercial guidance, develop robust contractual arrangements, and help ensure profitable and sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide commercial leadership and support throughout the sales, bid, contract delivery, and renewal processes.
  • Lead the drafting, negotiation, and management of customer contracts and commercial agreements.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and operational risks across customer and supplier contracts.
  • Support business development teams with new business opportunities, tenders, and customer negotiations.
  • Partner with operational and account management teams to maximise contract profitability and performance.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and develop a deep understanding of their commercial objectives.
  • Conduct ongoing reviews of contractual arrangements to ensure they accurately reflect business activity and deliver maximum commercial benefit.
  • Work closely with legal colleagues to ensure contracts are robust, enforceable, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Support the resolution of customer disputes, claims, and contractual issues.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams on supplier negotiations and contract flow-down requirements.
  • Contribute to wider business initiatives including risk management, compliance, sustainability, and governance projects.
  • Promote best practice in commercial management, negotiation, and customer engagement across the organisation.

You will be a commercially astute professional with strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills, capable of operating effectively within a complex and dynamic business environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience delivering commercial support within a complex business environment, ideally within logistics, supply chain, transport, manufacturing, or related sectors.
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience negotiating high-value customer and supplier contracts.
  • Sound understanding of commercial and operational risk management.
  • Good knowledge of contract law and common commercial contract terms.
  • Experience supporting bids, tenders, and business development activities.
  • Strong financial awareness with an understanding of contract profitability and commercial performance drivers.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to develop practical and commercially balanced solutions to complex issues.
