Commercial Manager – Major Infrastructure Projects
About the Role
The UK’s journey to net zero is driving one of the most significant transformations in the energy sector, and at National Grid, we’re leading the charge. As we build the networks that will power a cleaner, more sustainable future, we are seeking a talented Commercial Manager to drive large-scale infrastructure projects that will support Britain’s energy needs for generations to come.
You will:
- Lead a team of Quantity Surveyors
- Maximise commercial performance in high-impact construction projects
- Ensure value for consumers while navigating regulatory requirements
- Mitigate commercial risk and optimise financial outcomes
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including the Electricity Transmission Partnership, to shape strategies for critical infrastructure until 2030 and beyond
Key Responsibilities
- Lead commercial delivery of major projects from procurement through completion
- Manage NEC3/NEC4 contracts, ensuring cost control, risk mitigation, and value optimisation
- Identify and resolve commercial risks, contractual disputes, and financial challenges
- Build strategic relationships with internal teams and external partners for project success
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors, fostering performance and growth
- Work with Procurement to design tender strategies and secure the best commercial arrangements for National Grid and consumers

This hybrid role blends office and home-based work with regular field travel across England and Wales, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to nationally critical infrastructure while advancing your commercial career within a leading UK organisation.
About You
This role is ideal for an experienced commercial professional with a proven track record in large, complex organisations, especially in infrastructure or construction. You’ll thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, excel in stakeholder engagement, and bring strategic thinking to every challenge.
We’re looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
✅ Experience in commercial, quantity surveying, or financial management, ideally on major infrastructure projects using NEC3/NEC4 contracts ✅ Strong commercial and financial acumen, including contract management, cost control, and risk assessment ✅ Proven leadership in team development, with experience managing multi-location teams ✅ Understanding of commercial strategy and financial planning within a regulated environment (energy sector knowledge is a bonus but not essential) ✅ Procurement and regulatory awareness, recognising their impact on project delivery ✅ Passion for net-zero energy transitions and making a lasting impact on the UK’s energy future
