Commercial Manager

Location: Epsom, Godstone, St Mary Cray, Horsham or Ashford Salary: £55,500 - £66,700 per annum (dependent on skills and qualifications) Type: Full-time | Hybrid


About the Role

SGN is looking for a commercial astute and proactive Commercial Manager to support strategic supplier and contractor relationships across their operational portfolio. This role is pivotal in ensuring robust commercial governance, effective contract management, and optimal supplier performance to deliver safe and efficient services.

The Commercial Manager will provide commercial leadership across contracts, influence stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement in a regulated environment. A key opportunity exists to make a tangible impact through operational delivery, commercial risk management, and value creation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage strategic supplier and contractor relationships to align with operational needs.
  • Ensure effective commercial governance and rigorous contract management across the business.
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
  • Resolve commercial disputes, change events, and contractual challenges.
  • Drive supplier performance, value for money, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and Health & Safety teams to deliver strategic business outcomes.

Requirements & Skills

Essential:

  • Proven experience in Commercial Management, Quantity Surveying, Procurement, Contract Management, or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of contract management principles, commercial governance, and risk management.
  • Experience managing operational, infrastructure, utility, or construction-related contracts.
  • Ability to analyse commercial and financial data and present clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and communication skills across all levels.
  • Presentation skills for both technical and senior management audiences.
  • A desirable but not essential valid driving licence.

Advantageous/Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in a regulated or safety-critical environment.
  • Knowledge of NEC (New Engineering Contract) frameworks.
  • Valuable if applicants do not meet every criterion—diverse backgrounds lend unique perspectives.
