Commercial Manager
Due to continued growth and the progression into the next phase of one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes, Balfour Beatty Power T&D is looking to recruit an experienced Commercial Manager to support the delivery of the East Coast Part A contracts and help shape the commercial strategy for the upcoming LT455 Part B phase.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a high-profile programme at the heart of the UK's transition to Net Zero, supporting the reinforcement of Scotland's electricity network and enabling the integration of renewable energy across the country.
As a Commercial Manager, you will lead the commercial function, develop and mentor a talented team, and play a pivotal role in delivering major infrastructure projects that will leave a lasting legacy.
As a Commercial Manager, you'll take ownership of the commercial and financial performance of major infrastructure projects or portfolios, often valued at tens of millions of pounds.
You'll be a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for driving commercial success, managing risk, supporting strategic decision-making and developing a high-performing commercial team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management of projects from tender through to final account
- Manage and develop the commercial team, providing leadership and mentorship
- Oversee target cost development, risk management and contract negotiation
- Lead monthly CVR reporting and provide clear updates to senior stakeholders
- Review tenders, estimates and contract documentation
- Manage supply chain strategy, procurement and commercial performance
- Handle compensation events, variations and disallowed costs
- Provide commercial input into value engineering and project strategy
- Ensure compliance with the Gated Business Lifecycle process (Gates 1–8)
- Support stakeholder engagement, including clients, partners and legal advisors
Essential
- Proven experience leading commercial activities on large infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of NEC contracts
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop commercial teams
- Strong commercial awareness, negotiation skills and stakeholder management experience
- Degree in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent experience)
- Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
