Contract Manager – Contracts & Commercial Support

About the Role

Assist the sales team to secure and deliver profitable new business while providing commercial, contract, and contract management support as part of Capita’s dynamic commercial function.


Desirable Experience & Track Record

  • 2+ years’ experience in contracts, preferably with pre- and post-contract delivery, including:
    • Bid preparation and submission (e.g., ITTs, RFPs, BAFOs)
    • Commercial negotiation and deal shaping
    • Contract administration, review, and variation management
    • Risk identification and mitigation
    • Contract lifecycle management

Key Responsibilities

New Business & Commercial Support

  • Assist the sales team in securing profitable and deliverable new business
  • Provide commercial support in deal shaping, negotiations, and contract drafting
  • Review pricing of new and existing proposals to ensure alignment with:
    • Company margins
    • Risk management strategies
    • Contingency provisions

Contract Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure all customer and supplier bids/contracts are approved and reviewed in line with:
    • Deal approval governance
    • Company policy
  • Identify, manage, and report key commercial and legal risks, including liaison with the Legal function

Contract Lifecycle Management

  • Serve as the main point of contact for principal client contract(s)
  • Provide in-life contract management support to monitor compliance, performance, and renewal readiness
  • Review and interpret existing contracts to advise on rights, obligations, and potential legal or commercial risks
  • Lead change management of contracts, including BAU variations and amendments
  • Prepare regular contract reports for stakeholders in line with governance and KPIs

Records & Documentation

  • Maintain up-to-date contract records for internal and external access
  • Record, ratify, and circulate minutes from commercial/negotiation meetings as required
  • Support the administration of contracts, including:
    • Provision of contractual templates/toolkits
    • Delivery of essential notices

Stakeholder Engagement & Support

  • Support sub-contractor relationship management and ongoing contract oversight
  • Assist in due diligence and audit data requests
  • Collaborate with client-specific management teams to manage activity pipelines and contribute to:
    • Client strategy reviews
    • Performance evaluations

Skills & Requirements

Technical & Functional Expertise

  • Strong understanding of bid preparation and submission processes, including:
    • ITTs, RFPs, and BAFOs
  • Ability to identify and analyse critical commercial risks, such as:
    • KPIs
    • SLAs
    • Contractual dependencies and milestones
  • Excellent contract drafting, negotiation, and contracting skills
  • Deep knowledge of contract law and its application in SW/IT/BPO/Professional Services environments
  • Financial acumen with the ability to assess margins and risks
  • Key competency in producing reports and summaries for senior and non-commercial audiences

Performance & Soft Skills

  • Self-starter – Problem-solving approach to completing activities from start to finish
  • Resilient, self-motivated, and adaptable under pressure
  • Strong ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and manage workloads
  • Proactive in seeking support or guidance when required
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
