The Role
You’ll advance your commercial leadership in a highly regulated environment, collaborating with senior internal and external stakeholders while growing expertise in large-scale, complex construction projects. This career path positions you at the heart of defence, aerospace, and engineering—sectors that drive meaningful impact and support a safer future.
Key Responsibilities
As part of the Naval Nuclear Commercial Team, your role includes:
- Delivering some of the UK’s most significant defence infrastructure programmes, influencing billion-pound portfolios.
- Ensuring commercial governance, risk management, and contract compliance are executed with precision and confidence.
- Providing expertise in commercial compliance, including:
- Tender, contract review, and change control processes.
- Risk management for complex infrastructure programmes.
- Developing and validating cost estimates, budgets, forecasts, cashflows, and value-of-work-done (VOWD) across multiple projects.
- Leading subcontract tendering, including bid evaluation, negotiation, and contract awards.
- NEC4 contract negotiations to secure favourable outcomes and manage scope efficiently.
- Acting as the escalation point for high-risk commercial issues, ensuring project delivery remains compliant and controlled.

Essential Experience & Qualifications
Experience
- Significant professional experience managing:
- Large, complex construction contracts and bids within regulated environments.
- MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) packages across full project lifecycles.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder relationship management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of NEC4 contracts, including:
- ECC (Engineering and Construction Contract)
- PSC (Public Sector Contracts)
- ECSC (Engineering and Construction Short Contract) (Options A–E)
Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in:
- Quantity Surveying
- Business/Finance
- Law
- Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
- Construction Management
- Preferred (but not essential): World Commerce and Contracting (WCC) or MCIPS (Master’s Award in Contracts/Purchasing Management through the Chartered Institute for Procurement & Supply).
Security Clearance Requirement
The successful candidate must be able to secure and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance. Criteria apply based on nationality, residency, and employment history; please check the UK Security Clearance guidance.
