Commercial Manager

Location: Ickenham (Head Office Based), UB10

Sector: Growing SME (Mechanical Engineering / Building Services Contractor)

Salary: £65,000 – £75,000+ (Flexible Dependent on Experience) + Benefits


The Opportunity

We are collaborating with a growing and well-established mechanical contractor, delivering projects across public and private sectors, including:

  • Healthcare
  • Education
  • Commercial environments

Due to continued expansion, our client is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to step into a key leadership role, with responsibilities including:

  • Oversight of multiple projects
  • Management of a small commercial team
  • Central involvement in shaping and developing the commercial function

This is a unique role where real influence is a core part of the position.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the commercial performance of multiple live projects
  • Hold full P&L responsibility across projects and business units
  • Review, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts
  • Develop cost plans, budgets, and financial forecasts
  • Lead project performance reviews, focusing on profitability and risk management
  • Improve and implement commercial processes, systems, and controls
  • Establish consistent financial reporting across all projects
  • Promote commercial awareness within operational teams
  • Manage, mentor, and develop junior Quantity Surveyors
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the commercial function

About You

Essential

  • Proactive, driven, and commercially astute
  • Capable of operating strategically and hands-on
  • Experience in engineering, construction, or building services sectors
  • Confident in managing multiple projects and stakeholders
  • Strong financial control, reporting, and decision-making skills
  • Passionate about team development and business performance improvement

Desirable

  • Experience with commercial/project management systems (e.g. Archdesk)
  • Familiarity with accounting/project software (e.g. Sage 50 Projects)
  • Previous improvement or implementation of commercial systems

Salary & Benefits

  • Base salary: £65,000 – £75,000+ (dependent on experience)
