Commercial Manager – Procurement
Major Infrastructure Project | £400m New Build | Senior Commercial Leadership Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Commercial Manager to lead the subcontract procurement function on a landmark £400 million new build infrastructure project.
This is a high-profile opportunity to join a major project from an early stage, taking ownership of the procurement strategy and delivery of complex subcontract packages. Working alongside the Associate Commercial Director, Head of Procurement and wider project leadership team, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring procurement activities are commercially robust, compliant and delivered to programme.

The Role
As Commercial Manager, you'll take responsibility for the end-to-end subcontract procurement process, ensuring packages are procured efficiently, competitively and in line with NEC contract requirements, project governance and business procedures.

- Leading all subcontract procurement activities across the project.
- Developing, managing and continually reviewing the project procurement plan to ensure key milestones are achieved.
- Managing the Subcontract Tender Events Schedule and Tender Register, ensuring accurate reporting and timely client submissions.
- Working closely with the Associate Commercial Director and Head of Procurement to prepare subcontract recommendations and support commercial decision-making.
- Selecting the appropriate procurement strategy and contract form for each subcontract package.
- Preparing and reviewing subcontract documentation, ensuring accuracy, commercial robustness and compliance with project requirements.
- Collaborating with commercial, operational, design and procurement teams throughout the procurement lifecycle.
- Managing subcontract approvals, governance processes and compliance registers.
- Ensuring subcontract orders are placed in accordance with approved recommendations and project programme requirements.
- Identifying commercial risks, protecting the business from disallowed costs and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Driving continuous improvement across procurement processes, governance and commercial performance.
- Promoting collaborative working and supporting the development of a high-performing commercial team.
- Maintaining professional development through ongoing CPD.

You'll have:
- Significant experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial professional within the construction or infrastructure sector.
- Extensive experience managing subcontract procurement on major construction projects.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts and subcontract administration.
- Experience developing and managing procurement programmes and tender processes.
- Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to identify and mitigate project risk.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent planning and organisational ability, with a high level of attention to detail.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment.
- Good knowledge of construction methods, products and installation processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
