Commercial Manager
Location: Trowbridge, Wiltshire (Hybrid Working Available)
Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 + Tax Free Bonus, Benefits
NexGen Associates are delighted to be supporting an innovative and rapidly growing defence technology organisation in the search for an experienced Commercial Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to join a business that is expanding into new markets and strengthening its position across Defence, Government and other highly regulated sectors. Working closely with the senior leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping commercial strategy, negotiating complex contracts, managing commercial risk and developing strategic partnerships that support the company's continued growth.
This role is ideally suited to someone with previous in-house commercial experience within a defence consultancy or defence technology organisation who enjoys operating at both a strategic and operational level.
The Role
As Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for leading the company's commercial activities across business development, partnerships and contract management. You will provide commercial leadership throughout the contract lifecycle, ensuring opportunities are structured to maximise value while effectively managing commercial, legal and financial risk.
Working alongside Sales, Business Development, Finance and Operations, you will support the business as it enters new markets and develops long-term customer and partner relationships.

- Develop and implement the company's commercial strategy to support continued business growth.
- Lead the commercial negotiation of complex customer, supplier and partnership agreements.
- Structure and negotiate strategic partnerships, alliance agreements and teaming arrangements.
- Provide commercial input into bids, proposals and pricing strategies.
- Review, negotiate and manage non-standard commercial contracts, framework agreements and Statements of Work.
- Protect commercial interests through effective risk management and contract governance.
- Support contract lifecycle management, including change control, contract amendments, renewals and exit planning.
- Build strong commercial relationships with customers, partners and framework providers.
- Work closely with senior leadership to identify commercial opportunities and advise on commercial risk.
- Ensure pricing discipline and margin protection across all commercial activities.
- Collaborate with Finance and Operations to improve forecasting, reporting and commercial performance.
- Develop scalable commercial processes appropriate for a growing SME.
- Support overseas commercial activity where required, including an awareness of import/export and trade compliance requirements.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Previous in-house experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Commercial Manager within a Defence consultancy or Defence technology organisation.
- Strong experience negotiating and managing complex commercial contracts.
- A sound understanding of the legal aspects of commercial contracts and contract negotiation.
- Experience working with the Ministry of Defence, Central Government and Blue Light organisations.
- Experience balancing commercial growth, profitability and risk.
- Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
- The ability to influence senior leadership and external customers.
- Strong commercial judgement with a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
- Eligibility to obtain SC Security Clearance (Sole UK National).

Desirable Experience
- Experience working with overseas customers or international contracts.
- Knowledge of Defence procurement and commercial frameworks.
- Experience within digital, software or technology-led organisations.
- Understanding of intellectual property, liability, pricing models and commercial governance.
- Experience supporting partnerships with defence primes, SMEs or systems integrators.
