Commercial Manager
Location: Blyth, United Kingdom Salary: Up to £120k + package
This leading engineering and construction contractor specialises in delivering complex mission-critical, pharmaceutical, industrial, and infrastructure projects across Europe. With a strong reputation within the hyperscale data centre market, the business continues to secure major projects for some of the world’s largest technology clients and is experiencing sustained growth across the UK and Europe.
Due to continued project expansion, they are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join a major hyperscale data centre project in Blyth. This is an excellent opportunity to join a business with a significant project pipeline, strong career development opportunities, and a proven track record of delivering some of Europe’s most technically complex projects.
The Role
As Commercial Manager, you will take responsibility for the commercial performance and financial management of a major data centre project, ensuring successful delivery from both a contractual and commercial perspective.
You will:
- Lead and develop commercial teams, driving high levels of performance and accountability
- Manage project cost control processes and ensure robust commercial governance
- Provide accurate financial reporting, manage project procurement, and align with commercial objectives
- Operate effectively in a fast-paced project environment, including strong stakeholder management

Key Responsibilities

Leading and developing the commercial team to ensure performance and accountability

Managing project cost control and commercial governance processes

Preparing and presenting:
- Monthly cost reports
- Cash flow forecasts
- Commercial performance updates for senior stakeholders

Overseeing procurement strategies to align with programme objectives and budget constraints

Supporting the transition from pre-construction through project delivery, ensuring buy-in for budgets, scope, procurement strategy, and commercial objectives

Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, including clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and project leaders

Managing all commercial documentation, contracts, and reporting processes

Monitoring project risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation and opportunities
- Lead variation management, change control, and commercial issue resolution
- Undertake due diligence reviews of subcontractors and suppliers before appointment
- Ensuring subcontract agreements and purchase orders offer appropriate commercial protection
- Managing client valuations, payment applications, and cash collection activities
- Overseeing payment certification and commercial administration across the supply chain

Requirements
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline
- Typically 10+ years’ experience in construction industry commercial management
- Previously worked for a Main Contractor with strong experience in commercial management, contracts, and financial control
- Experience managing commercial teams on large-scale construction projects
- Strong:
- Communication and leadership skills
- Analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation capabilities
- Would be advantageous:
- Experience within Data Centres, Mission-Critical, Pharmaceutical, or Industrial projects
- MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) experience
- Knowledge of multiple procurement routes, including:
- Lump Sum
- Remeasure
- Design & Build
- Two-Stage Tendering
