COMMERCIAL MANAGER

£48 per hour via Umbrella
Initial 6-month contract | SC Clearance required
Hybrid working – 3 days per week on-site in Portsmouth
37 hour week

Work on complex defence and secure communications contracts worth up to hundreds of millions of pounds

ABOUT THE CLIENT

Our client is a major organisation operating within a highly secure and technically complex environment, delivering critical communications and technology solutions that support national security and defence programmes. Due to continued programme growth and an increasing portfolio of strategic projects, they are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to support the successful delivery of high-value contracts and bids.

THE COMMERCIAL MANAGER ROLE

As Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the commercial lifecycle of complex defence and technology programmes. You will be responsible for contract management, commercial negotiations, bid support and risk management, ensuring commercial objectives are achieved while maintaining compliance and governance standards.

You will:

  • Support complex bids, proposals and contract negotiations
  • Manage high-value contracts throughout their lifecycle
  • Lead commercial change management activities
  • Identify, assess and mitigate commercial risks
  • Build strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders
  • Support procurement teams with contractual obligations and risk management
  • Ensure compliance with commercial governance and company procedures
  • Provide commercial guidance across programme, finance, engineering and procurement teams

COMMERCIAL MANAGER ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Proven Commercial Management experience
  • Strong contract negotiation and contract management skills
  • Experience supporting competitive bids and proposals
  • Customer-facing commercial experience
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Knowledge of defence, aerospace or other regulated industries
  • Strong commercial awareness and risk management capability
  • Understanding of project management, finance and governance principles
  • Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills
