Commercial Manager

Commercial Manager (Net Zero Infrastructure) – National Grid

About The Role

The UK’s journey to net zero is driving one of the most significant transformations in the energy sector, and at National Grid, we’re at the heart of making it happen.

As we build the networks needed to support a cleaner, more sustainable future, we’re looking for a talented Commercial Manager to play a key role in delivering major infrastructure projects that will power Britain for generations to come.

You will lead a team of Quantity Surveyors and take responsibility for maximising the commercial performance of large-scale construction projects, ensuring value for money for consumers while operating within the regulatory framework. You’ll manage commercial risk and support the successful delivery of National Grid’s ambitious investment programme.

Working across a diverse portfolio of projects, you’ll collaborate with internal and external stakeholders—including the Electricity Transmission Partnership—to shape commercial strategies and contractual arrangements that will support the delivery of critical energy infrastructure through 2030 and beyond.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading the commercial delivery of major infrastructure projects from procurement through to completion.
  • Managing NEC3/NEC4 contracts, ensuring effective cost control, risk management, and value optimisation.
  • Identifying and mitigating commercial risks, while supporting the resolution of contractual issues and disputes.
  • Building strong relationships with internal teams and external partners to drive successful project outcomes.
  • Leading, coaching, and developing a team of Quantity Surveyors, supporting both performance and professional growth.
  • Working closely with Procurement to shape tender strategies and negotiate commercial arrangements that deliver the best value for National Grid and consumers.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You

You’ll be an experienced commercial professional with a strong track record of delivering value within large, complex organisations, ideally across major infrastructure or construction programmes.

We’re Looking For Someone Who Brings:

  • Experience in a commercial, quantity surveying, or financial management role, ideally on major infrastructure or construction projects using NEC3 or NEC4 contracts.
  • Strong commercial and financial skills, with experience managing contracts, costs, and risk.
  • Experience leading and developing teams, including those working across multiple locations.
  • An understanding of commercial strategy and financial planning within a regulated or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of the UK energy sector or transmission infrastructure would be beneficial but isn’t essential.
  • An appreciation of procurement processes and regulatory requirements and how these impact project delivery and commercial decisions.

Importantly, you’ll have a passion for delivering critical infrastructure and supporting the UK’s transition to Net Zero, motivated by the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the future of energy.
