Role Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to provide commercial leadership on major infrastructure and tunnelling projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for protecting the project's commercial interests, ensuring effective contract administration under NEC4, and delivering robust cost and risk management throughout the project lifecycle.
This role requires a commercially astute professional with the ability to work collaboratively with operational teams, clients, and supply chain partners to achieve successful project outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead all commercial activities across major infrastructure and tunnelling projects.
- Administer and manage contracts in accordance with NEC4 contractual requirements.
- Manage compensation events, change control processes, and commercial negotiations.
- Oversee project cost management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities.
- Lead the procurement and management of subcontractors and suppliers.
- Support project teams with commercial advice and strategic decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company governance procedures.
- Prepare and present commercial reports to senior stakeholders and clients.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, delivery partners, and the wider project team.
- Lead, mentor, and develop commercial team members to drive high performance.

- Proven experience in a Commercial Manager role on major infrastructure, civil engineering, or tunnelling projects.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of NEC4 contracts, including compensation events, early warnings, and change management.
- Demonstrable experience managing complex commercial and contractual matters within large-scale construction environments.
- Excellent understanding of cost control, forecasting, financial reporting, and risk management.
- Experience leading commercial teams and managing stakeholder relationships at all levels.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively within fast-paced, multidisciplinary project teams.
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional membership with RICS, ICES, or equivalent is desirable.
