Commercial Manager
Commercial Manager – Private Label Food Business
About the Client
As a market leading and dynamic Private Label Food Business, our client boasts an impressive track record and an exceptionally bright future. They dominate key product categories and have seen significant growth in the past few years, now with a 5-Year Strategic Plan aiming to increase group turnover by 35% through expanding into new customer segments and channels across the UK.
Following a £multi-million CAPEX investment in production and head-office operations, they are now seeking a Commercial Manager to join their team.
The Role
As the Commercial Manager, you will have full P&L accountability for two key customers, representing a significant portion of the business’s sales and profit. The role is highly challenging, with opportunities to drive category and customer growth while shaping new strategies for market success.
Key Responsibilities
Managing and Growing Current Business
- Drive growth for two major customers, ensuring alignment with profitability and strategic objectives.
- Act as the Business Lead, elevating performance while managing NPD (New Product Development) and EPD (Existing Product Development) to enhance customer and consumer insights.

Winning New Business
- Expand into new retail channels, including Grocery, Discounters, Highstreet, and Convenience.
- Lead matrix projects to foster innovation and commercial success.
Customer Management & Negotiation
- Maintain direct customer contact across all relevant functions (sales, operations, marketing).
- Negotiate annual Joint Business Plans (JBPs) and ensure adherence to business guidelines.
- Navigate challenging customer relationships with strategic clarity and resilience.
- Optimise product mix to maximise margin, while negotiating pricing, terms, and promotions.
- Deliver price increases where justified while maintaining competitive positioning.
Promotion & Trade Spend Management
- Pre- and post-evaluate promotional activities to maximise ROI.
- Align customer activities with central brand direction where applicable.
- Exercise strict Trade Spend control to ensure financial discipline across campaigns.
Brand & Communication Leadership
- Effectively communicate brand plans to the customer base, driving engagement and loyalty.

Candidate Requirements
The role requires self-motivation, strong leadership, and a proven ability to deliver financial growth. While working under a Commercial Director, the focus will be on your own performance in growing the business.
Preferred Experience
- Strong track record in Retailer Branded initiatives across Grocery, Discounters, Highstreet, or Convenience.
- Experience in NPD, Category Management, or Growth Marketing within a dynamic commercial environment.
Stretch Potential
The client is open to junior candidates with Commercial Management experience who demonstrate:
- A high aptitude for learning and ability to quickly take ownership of strategic responsibilities.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
- A growth mindset with the potential to advance into a full Commercial Manager role.
