Commercial Manager – Specialist Bridges Inspection & Maintenance (SBIM)

Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join our Specialist Bridges Inspection & Maintenance (SBIM) team in Bristol. You'll become part of a collaborative and high-performing commercial function responsible for supporting the maintenance and protection of some of the UK's most iconic transport structures.

What will the role offer?

Within SBIM, you'll have the opportunity to support the delivery of bridge inspection, maintenance and infrastructure improvement projects across nationally significant assets, including the Prince of Wales Bridge, Severn Bridge, and Avonmouth Bridge.

The Commercial team plays a vital role in delivering planned maintenance, reactive works, inspections and improvement projects across our bridge portfolio. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, managing a diverse range of activities while providing commercial leadership and support to operational teams.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Implement commercial processes and controls to ensure contractual entitlements are identified, captured and realised.
  • Manage cost capture, valuation, procurement, forecasting and commercial reporting activities.
  • Oversee subcontractor accounts and ensure compliance with agreed subcontract terms and conditions.
  • Prepare and present commercial reports, including Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), cash flow forecasts and performance updates.
  • Monitor contract performance against agreed KPIs and commercial benchmarks.
  • Provide commercial support and challenge to operational teams, helping drive profitability, cash collection and operational efficiency.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities throughout the contract lifecycle.
  • Support client and stakeholder engagement to maintain strong commercial relationships and ensure successful contract delivery.
  • Contribute to the commercial management of bridge maintenance, inspection and infrastructure improvement works across the network.

We Want to Hear From You If You Have

  • Proven experience in a Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveyor or similar commercial role.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with sound financial and contractual knowledge.
  • Experience managing subcontractor accounts and contract administration.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and driving commercial performance.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and reporting skills.

Qualifications And Experience

Ideally, you will hold a relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline (RICS-accredited or equivalent) and have experience operating at a commercial management level.

Experience using commercial management and financial systems such as SAP would be advantageous but is not essential, as full training and support will be provided.
