McKenzies Ltd is one of the leading metal recycling and processing companies across the UK and Ireland. Through continued investment, innovation and expansion, we provide sustainable recycling solutions to manufacturers, industrial businesses, waste management companies and the wider recycling sector.

As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an ambitious and commercially driven Commercial Manager to join our team.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Executive Director and Commercial Director, this is a customer-facing, field-based position responsible for developing new business opportunities while managing an established portfolio of customers.

You will spend the majority of your time on the road meeting customers, building long-term relationships and identifying opportunities to purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal from a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, engineering, construction, demolition, waste management and industrial processing.

Success in this role is built on trust, strong commercial judgement and the ability to deliver value-added recycling solutions that support our customers' businesses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new business opportunities and secure new scrap metal supply contracts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing customers, ensuring exceptional levels of service.
  • Purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap from factories, manufacturers, engineering companies, waste management businesses and industrial producers.
  • Identify customer requirements and develop tailored recycling and waste management solutions.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements and pricing in line with company strategy.
  • Prepare quotations, contracts and commercial proposals.
  • Monitor market trends, commodity prices and competitor activity.
  • Work closely with transport, operations and yard teams to ensure smooth collections and excellent customer service.
  • Represent McKenzies professionally at customer meetings, site visits and industry events.
  • Maintain accurate customer records and activity reports using company systems.
  • Achieve agreed commercial targets while maintaining strong margins and long-term customer relationships.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
