Commercial Manager

Newmarket Salary: £60,000 – £80,000

Preferred Background: Engineering degree (Electrical or Electronic), with experience in the low-voltage electrical sector.

About the Company

This role is with a specialist engineering business focused on low-voltage electrical solutions, delivering technical excellence across:

  • Low-voltage control panels
  • Power distribution units
  • Low-voltage switchgear
  • Electrical systems for industrial and technical environments

The business provides bespoke design, project delivery, and ongoing commercial support to clients in industrial, engineering, and infrastructure sectors.

The Opportunity

The company is expanding rapidly and requires a Commercial Manager to drive growth in the low-voltage electrical and power distribution market. You’ll work closely with the Director to shape strategic commercial direction, securing new business and deepening client relationships.

This role demands a commercial-minded engineer with:

  • Deep knowledge of electrical systems and control technologies
  • Experience in business development, sales, and customer engagement
  • Ability to bid, negotiate, and deliver technical solutions across:
    • Control panels
    • LV switchgear
    • Power distribution systems
    • Electrical infrastructure

You must be able to bridge the gap between technical teams and commercial stakeholders, engaging effectively with clients, contractors, and engineering partners.


Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Growth

  • Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities in the low-voltage electrical sector.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key clients across:
    • Industrial, manufacturing, utilities, infrastructure, and engineering markets.
  • Support the Director in expanding market presence and driving commercial success.

Proposals & Commercial Negotiation

  • Prepare and manage proposals, quotes, tenders, and commercial agreements.
  • Lead commercial discussions, bids, and negotiations with customers and partners.
  • Develop account-growth strategies to maximise repeat business.

Technical & Strategic Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering and technical teams to align sales with client needs.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor strategies, and industry developments.
  • Represent the business at client meetings, industry events, and networking forums.

Strategic & Long-Term Planning

  • Contribute to long-term commercial planning and strategic growth initiatives.

Requirements

  • Experience in a commercial leadership role: Commercial Manager, Business Development Manager, or equivalent within electrical engineering.
  • Technical expertise: Deep knowledge of low-voltage systems, including:
    • Control panels
    • Low-voltage switchgear
    • Power distribution units (PDUs)
    • Motor control centres (MCCs)
    • Electrical infrastructure
  • Proven track record in securing business in electrical, industrial, or technical environments.
  • Commercial acumen: Ability to spot opportunities, negotiate effectively, and drive revenue growth.
  • Strong communication skills – technical aptitude to engage with engineers, while commercial nous to influence board-level decisions.
  • Hands-on, proactive approach with a stakeholder management mind-set.
