The Opportunity
Laing O'Rourke is seeking a Commercial Manager to join our team in Newark-on-Trent, supporting National Grid's Great Grid Partnership programme.
This long-term framework will deliver essential UK energy infrastructure projects well beyond 2030, offering stability, variety, and the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant work.
What will the role look like?
- Managing commercial activities across your project section from pre-construction through to completion.
- Coordinating with subcontractors, clients, and project teams to support successful delivery outcomes.
- Supporting strong financial, contractual, and commercial management to help achieve project objectives.
- Preparing monthly cost reports, contract reviews, BPR information, and business planning inputs.
- Managing subcontract drafting, administration, and settlement of accounts and claims.
- Overseeing change control processes and ensuring effective risk and opportunity management.
- Providing contractual and commercial advice to project teams.
- Supporting continuous improvement and encouraging best practice across operations.
- Supporting the development of colleagues within the commercial team.
- Ensuring contract documentation is properly completed and compliant prior to project commencement.
- Highlighting and escalating risks or issues that may affect project or business performance.

What skills & experience are we looking for?
- Strong knowledge of NEC contracts.
- Experience in power or major infrastructure projects.
- A degree in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A practical approach to managing risk and improving commercial outcomes.
- RICS membership (desirable but not essential)
