Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Commercial Manager to lead our commercial team and manage all commercial aspects of our multidisciplinary construction projects. The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of experience in the industry, with a strong background in NEC contracts and procurement of high-value complex packages. This role requires excellent leadership skills and the ability to drive commercial strategies that maximize profitability and mitigate risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a commercial strategy that achieves budget and maximises profitability.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a team of commercial professionals.
  • Manage commercial risk and opportunity.
  • Ensure adherence to all commercial reporting procedures.
  • Act as the single point of contact for all commercial, legal, financial, and administrative issues with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Partner with technical experts to provide regular commercial insights on the performance of supply chain organizations.
  • Manage customer relationships to ensure a constructive relationship throughout the lifecycle of all projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislative, regulatory, and corporate standards in commercial and contractual arrangements.
  • Assess compensation events, claims, and disputes regarding contracts.
  • Develop, implement, and continually review procedures and practices to ensure effective commercial management of contracts.
  • Accurately forecast and monitor key performance indicators.
  • Ensure accurate cost-value reconciliations are in place and reviewed monthly.
  • Liaise closely with pre-contract teams to assist with tenders and work-winning.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in commercial management within the construction industry.
  • Extensive experience with NEC contracts.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing a team of commercial professionals.
  • Significant experience in the procurement of high-value, complex packages.
  • Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CIOB).
  • Strong project management skills with experience in procurement, contract, and financial management.
  • Technical understanding of the core phases of construction projects.

  • Sound knowledge of the construction industry and compliance standards.
  • Ability to negotiate and manage high-value contractual disputes to successful conclusions.
  • Excellent communication and diplomacy skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders.
