About The Role

Balfour Beatty is recruiting for a Commercial Manager to support the ASTI Framework, delivering critical transmission infrastructure projects across North/ East Scotland.

The Commercial Manager plays a key role in driving commercial excellence, operational efficiency, and financial performance across the Power business. The role supports project teams by developing and improving commercial processes, systems, reporting tools, and data management practices that enhance decision-making and deliver consistent best practice.

Working closely with Commercial, Finance, and Operational teams, the Commercial Manager provides guidance, assurance, and challenge to ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly, and profitably. The role champions continuous improvement, supports change initiatives, and helps embed robust commercial governance across the business.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide commercial support and guidance to project teams across the portfolio.
  • Promote and implement best practice commercial processes, systems, and reporting standards.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities at an early stage and support project teams in developing appropriate mitigation or improvement plans.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company procedures, governance requirements, and commercial policies.
  • Undertake commercial health checks and assurance reviews to identify areas for improvement and support corrective actions.
  • Review and analyse project financial performance to maximise profitability and cash generation.
  • Support project teams with forecasting, budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting activities.
  • Lead or support Applications for Payment (AFP) processes to maximise cash collection and working capital performance.
  • Maintain, develop, and enhance portfolio-level dashboards and reporting for senior leadership teams.
  • Assist with project cash flow forecasting and financial reconciliation activities.
  • Ensure accurate use and management of financial and commercial data, including Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and associated reporting tools.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives that simplify ways of working and increase efficiency across project teams.
  • Support the development and enhancement of commercial and financial systems to improve reporting accuracy and business insight.
  • Provide training, coaching, and guidance to project teams on commercial systems, processes, and data management.
  • Analyse rates, prices, compensation events, and variations where required to support project delivery and commercial outcomes.
  • Support the development of standardised reporting, templates, and documentation for use across the wider Power business.
  • Mentor and support junior commercial team members, sharing knowledge and encouraging professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing culture through coaching, engagement, and continuous learning.
  • Maintain an active Personal Development Plan and support the development of others within the wider commercial community.

Who we're looking for

  • Significant experience in a senior commercial, financial, or project controls environment within infrastructure, utilities, construction, or engineering sectors.
  • Strong understanding of commercial management principles, project finance, cost control, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Experience supporting large-scale or complex projects.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills.
  • Membership of RICS, ICES, CIOB, CICES, or equivalent professional body (or working towards membership).
  • Experience of NEC contracts and compensation event management.
  • Experience developing reporting tools, dashboards, and commercial systems.
  • Knowledge of ERP and project management systems.
  • Proven track record of leading business improvement or transformation initiatives.
  • Experience working across multi-disciplinary project teams.
