We are working with an established and expanding residential groundworks contractor delivering high-quality infrastructure and groundworks packages for leading national and regional housebuilders.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to lead our commercial function and play a key role in driving the continued success of the business.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious commercial professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a strong background in residential groundworks, civil engineering, or infrastructure.
The Role
As Commercial Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the commercial performance of the business, managing a team of Quantity Surveyors while working closely with the Operations and Senior Leadership teams.
You will ensure projects are commercially successful from tender through to final account, maintaining strong client relationships, managing commercial risk, and identifying opportunities to improve profitability.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the commercial team across multiple residential groundworks projects.
- Oversee project budgets, cost reporting, valuations, variations, and final accounts.
- Maximise project profitability through effective commercial management.
- Manage contract negotiations and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
- Review and negotiate subcontractor agreements.
- Monitor cash flow, applications for payment, and debt recovery.
- Identify and mitigate commercial risks across the project portfolio.
- Support estimating and pre-construction teams during tender submissions.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Produce accurate commercial reports and forecasts for senior management.
- Mentor, develop, and support Quantity Surveyors and commercial staff.

You will be a commercially focused leader with extensive experience running commercial teams within the Construction or Civil Engineering sectors.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Commercial Manager
- Experience managing commercial teams.
- Strong financial awareness and cost management skills.
- Excellent negotiation and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with operational teams and clients.
- Strong reporting and forecasting skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional membership (RICS, CIOB, or equivalent).
