Commercial Manager / Senior Quantity Surveyor

£65,000 - £75,000 | Crowborough | Full-Time / Permanent

This is an opportunity for a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a well-regarded civil engineering contractor whose reputation precedes them. If you’re commercially aware and ready to help shape the future of a growing civil engineering business, we’d love to hear from you!

As Commercial Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing all commercial and contractual aspects of projects from the tender stage through to the final account. Working closely with the board, project teams, and clients, you will ensure the commercial integrity of each contract, manage risk, and maximise profitability.

YOUR NEW ROLE

  • Oversee the commercial department
  • Support the commercial aspect of the business, including:
    • Estimating & tender submission management
    • Development of the procurement programme
    • Subcontractor approval and procurement
  • Assist in controlling project budgets
  • Provide input into risk profiling and management
    • Preparation of monthly forecasts/reports (e.g., CVRs) for Director approval
  • Prepare:
    • Interim valuations & final accounts per contractual deadlines
    • SubContract valuations and payment authorisations
    • Subcontracts & engage in supplier negotiations
    • Review of Client contracts across NEC**, JCT, and bespoke forms**
  • Ensure effective pre- and post-project review meetings
  • Execute all contract administration for main contracts & subcontracts
  • Provide commercial advice to site teams on:
    • Project issues
    • Strategy
    • Commercial discussions and reviews
  • Attend & contribute to client meetings and project discussions
  • Build client relationships and demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • Engage actively in business development

ABOUT YOU

  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong commercial management experience within civil engineering or infrastructure
  • Expertise in standard forms of contract (NEC, JCT, bespoke)
  • Skilled negotiator with problem-solving abilities
  • Proactive, collaborative, and able to lead with confidence
