Manager – Commercial & Operational Excellence (AESG UK Office)
Our award-winning Specialist Consultancy, Engineering and Advisory Firm, with offices in London, Riyadh, Singapore, Dubai, Cape Town, Cairo & Sydney, is expanding its AESG team across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. Our four core verticals include Building Engineering, Planning and Infrastructure, Strategy and Advisory, and Commissioning, Handover, and Asset Management. Renowned for decades of expertise in sustainable design, fire and life safety, cost management, façade engineering, commissioning, building performance, waste and environmental consultancy, carbon management, and acoustics, we offer unparalleled support within the industry.
Job Purpose
The Manager will play a pivotal role in enhancing the commercial, operational, and financial performance of AESG’s UK business. As a trusted partner to UK leadership, this position involves coordinating forecasting, reporting, invoicing, resourcing, and operational processes while acting as a bridge between project teams and global support functions.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong stakeholder management skills within a professional services, consulting engineering, project management, or advisory environment, thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., finance, business, accounting, engineering, or consulting).
- Experience: At least 5–8 years in:
- Engineering consultancy (sustainable and building consultancy preferred)
- Project management, cost consultancy, or contract administration
- Multidisciplinary professional services (advisory/consulting)
- Operational & commercial support in a project-based consultancy
- Invoicing, reporting, and business support coordination
- Must have: Proven track record in commercial and operational administration, financial reporting, forecasting, and resource planning in a consulting engineering environment.

General Expectancies
- Organization & Analytical Skills: Ability to manage multiple priorities while ensuring columnar accuracy, meeting deadlines, and delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (including financial modelling)
- Experience with data analysis and business reporting tools
- Familiarity with Power BI, project financial systems, and dashboards (advantageous)
- Numerical & Problem-Solving Capabilities:
- Rigorous attention to detail, data interpretation, and financial/operational report validation
- Capacity to review complex commercial and project financial data
- Proactive & Solutions-Oriented Mindset:
- Dependable in monitoring operational deficits and resource allocation
- Adaptable in multidisciplinary consultancy settings (financial management, project operations, and contracts).
Responsibilities
1. Commercial & Financial Management
- Serve as operational lead for the UK office, ensuring optimal commercial performance.
- Diversified oversight:
- Monthly revenue forecasting, fee tracking, and financial performance monitoring.
- Challenge and validate project forecasts (collaborating with Division Leads).
- Monitor performance metrics: backlog, pipeline, resource utilisation, financial delivery, and costs.
- Analysing & drafting reports:
- Monthly fee forecasts, administration reports, and MFRs (Management Financial Reviews).
- Budget tracking against strategic objectives, risk identification, and opportunities.
- Proactiveness in profitability management: Ensure commercial alignment, financial accountability, and revenue optimisation.
- Coordinate project setups and ensure compliance with commercial governance.
- Liaise Globally:
- Finance, Contracts, and Operations teams regarding commercial/operational/contractual matters.
2. Invoicing & Cash Collection
- Invoice integrity assurance: Review and validate invoices prior to issuance for accuracy and compliance.
- Efficient billing coordination: Streamline between Project Managers and Finance teams.
- Cash flow management:
- Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), aged receivables, and debtors to assess collection risks.
- Proactively follow up with clients on outstanding payments.
- Risk escalation: Highlight overdue debt, contractual issues, and commercial risks to senior management.

3. Business Intelligence & Reporting
- Develop and sustain key performance indicator dashboards (monthly business reports).
- Analyze and report on:
- Revenue, utilisation, pipeline, backlog, cash collection, headcount, and recruitment.
- Support annual processes:
- Budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
- Contribute invaluable insights to divisional strategy.
4. Business Development Support
- Monitor growth potential:
- Pipelines, opportunities, and market activity to drive strategic objectives.
- Assist in:
- Bid/no-bid evaluations
- Commercial feasibility assessments for new opportunities
- Client relationship management
5. Resource & Workforce Planning
- Forecast and support resourcing:
- Workforce planning, recruitment requirements, and capacity optimisation
- Liaise with leadership on scaling teams and resource allocation.
