Salary: A GBP 35,000 to A GBP 40,000 depending on experience
Hours: 37.5 hours per week : Onsite
Contract Type: Temporary role for 6 : 9 months initially
Are you an experienced Commercial Officer or Contracts professional looking for your next opportunity in a highly regulated industry?
We are recruiting for a Commercial Officer to join a busy commercial team supporting a range of complex defence and engineering contracts. This is an excellent opportunity to work across the full contract lifecycle, from bid support through to contract delivery and completion, while developing your commercial and contractual expertise within a fast-paced environment.
This is an initial 6 to 9 month temporary assignment with the possibility of becoming a permanent position for the right person.
The Role
As Commercial Officer, you will provide commercial and contractual support across a portfolio of projects, working closely with internal teams, customers, and suppliers. You will help ensure contracts are commercially sound, compliant, and effectively managed throughout their lifecycle.
This role would suit someone with previous commercial contracts experience who enjoys building relationships, negotiating agreements, and supporting business growth while managing commercial risk.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the commercial aspects of major contracts and act as a key commercial contact.
- Support the full contract lifecycle including tendering, contract award, contract changes, delivery, and contract close out.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts, subcontracts, and commercial agreements.
- Work with bid and sales teams to provide commercial input into proposals and tenders.
- Ensure contractual obligations are flowed down to suppliers where required.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities and support the development of appropriate strategies.
- Attend customer and supplier meetings to provide commercial guidance.
- Advise internal stakeholders on commercial matters and contract compliance.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of commercial processes, templates, and governance documentation.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in a Commercial Officer, Contracts Officer, or Contract Management role.
- Experience working within defence, aerospace, manufacturing, engineering, or another highly regulated industry would be advantageous.
- Strong experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing commercial contracts.
- Knowledge of contract management principles and commercial risk.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- A proactive approach with strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
- Understanding of export regulations would be beneficial but is not essential.
