Professional Support Lawyer - Commercial Contracts/Data Protection | Manchester
There is a quiet revolution happening in how large law firms manage knowledge, and this firm is at the front of it. The old model, a PSL tucked away updating precedents and sending round a weekly email, is being replaced by something sharper. Here, the Professional Support Lawyer sits at the intersection of legal expertise, technology, and client delivery.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Know-how and insight - identifying key cases and legal developments, answering queries from fee earners, preparing consultation responses, and advising on the use of AI tools. You will curate precedents, practice notes, and working practices that help lawyers deliver their best work.
- Research and development - carrying out legal research, developing new precedents and procedures, contributing to the firm's intranet and knowledge systems, and working with IT and marketing to embed innovation. You will help shape how the firm captures and shares what it knows.
