Job Title: Commercial Projects Trainee

Location: Universal Music (UK, International: cross-market involvement)

About the Role

Universal Music Group is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Commercial Projects Trainee in the Commercial Projects team (Commercial Affairs division). This team Capitalisesthe technological intersection of digital curation, physical product strategy, marketing, and brand management, driving commercial success across physical/digital platforms.

You’ll coordinate diverse projects:

  • Manage vinyl/CD campaigns
  • Curate playlists and brand communications
  • Liaise globally with clients/markets

You must be an adaptable multitasker, balancing creative problem-solving with operational efficiency—ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, music-centric culture and loves collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

🔹 Physical Campaigns

  • Create and update pricing sheets for vinyl/CD campaigns.
  • Develop campaign themes, introducing commercially viable products for retail & e-commerce.
  • Lead approval workflows, pricing decisions, and sales tracking.
  • Canvass international markets, consolidating responses/executing corrective action.
  • Generate and distribute internal marketing notes (product info, gap assets).

🔹 Digital & Curation

  • Quality-check compilation products with delivery teams.
  • Curate and grow portfolio of hero playlist products while pitching new concepts.
  • Collaborate with designers on playlist artwork and assemble monthly Spotify ad asset suites.
  • Coordinate with social media teams, ensuring consistent, relevant platform cell-based content.
  • Prioritise tracks across second-hand labels to optimize real-time placements.

🔹 Brands & Digital Marketing

  • Social media management: Operate TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, and Discord accounts.
  • Budget coordination: Manage invoices, campaign spend, and track performance by region.
  • Tech implementation: Build CRM mailers, assist with digital strategies, and onboard creators to internal networks.
  • Train/integrate talented communities to support campaigns.

Requirements

🔧 Minimum

  • Exciting passion for music, key data metrics, or audience engagement.
  • Familiarity with major platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Spotify).
  • Must build ideas collaboratively; curious yet proactive mindset.
  • Strong quality awareness and attention to detail.

⚙ Problem Solving

  • Pleased to manage competing priorities in tight deadlines.
  • Gauges relationships between product demand, consumer trends, and performance.

💻 Technical Competence

  • Microsoft Office: Proficient in Excel (spreadsheets, formulas, reports) and Word/Outlook.
  • Open to learning rudimentary design/modeling tools.

❤️ Desirable

  • Rewards interest in music trends, deep streaming landscapes, and digital culture.
  • Proficiency in anomaly-spotting with sales/create performance datasets.
  • Experience with initiatives like social media handling, events, data analysis, or project tracking.
