Commercial Real Estate Senior Underwriter – Global Commercial Real Estate Clients, Wealth Division

The Commercial Real Estate Senior Underwriter is a strategic professional responsible for:
- Owning underwriting, deal execution, and portfolio management activities
- Providing competitive commercial real estate financing solutions to Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) and Family Office clients across the UK/Europe and globally
Responsibilities
Key duties include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborating with senior underwriters and loan originators to assess and structure credit opportunities
- Conducting in-depth financial analyses, including:
- Evaluation of commercial real estate assets (offices, industrial, retail, hospitality, multifamily)
- Historical performance reviews and pro forma cash flow projections
- Sensitivity analysis, tenancy schedules, and operating cost reviews
- Balance sheet analysis of sponsors/borrowers
- Performing due diligence using research and due diligence report providers
- Drafting concise credit approval memorandums, identifying risks and mitigants, and recommending credit decisions (including risk ratings and regulatory classifications)
- Negotiating legal documentation for:
- New transactions
- Refinancing deals
- Restructuring activities
- Liaising with clients, advisers, and external stakeholders throughout underwriting, execution, and loan portfolio management
- Monitoring client covenants and conducting periodic reviews, including:
- Annual evaluations
- Waivers and extensions
- Appropriate handoffs to the portfolio management team
- Identifying early signs of credit deterioration, escalating concerns, and proposing corrective actions
- Ensuring compliance with Citi’s regulatory guidelines, policies, and procedures
- Staying updated on market trends and developments within commercial real estate

Requirements
Experience & Skills
- Proven track record of success in relevant roles
- Strong analytical, financial, due diligence, and execution skills
- Preferred: Comprehensive experience in:
- Commercial real estate
- Credit risk underwriting
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
- Demonstrated negotiation and diplomacy skills
- Flexibility, initiative, and resilience in a fast-paced environment
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
Note on Certification & Fit & Proper Process
This role is a Certified Role, subject to Citi’s Certification Regime (part of the Individual Accountability Regime). Successful candidates will undergo:
- Interviews, self-disclosures, and criminal record checks
- Reference and credit checks
- Annual re-certification regarding financial soundness, honesty, reputation, and competence
