Commercial Sales Manager – Exeter & Plymouth Van Centres

Are you a high-performing Commercial Sales Manager, or experienced automotive sales leader looking for your next challenge?

Vertu Motors is recruiting a Commercial Sales Manager to lead and develop our sales performance across both our Exeter and Plymouth Van Centres. This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of the UK's leading motor retailers, taking responsibility for driving growth in both new and used commercial vehicle sales, while leading a successful team and delivering exceptional customer experiences.

About The Role

As Commercial Sales Manager, you will oversee the sales operation across our two busy Van Centres, ensuring outstanding performance, profitability and customer satisfaction. You'll play a pivotal role in developing your teams, identifying business opportunities, building relationships with local businesses and maintaining the highest standards of compliance and customer care.

You will lead from the front, supporting and coaching Local Business Development Managers to maximise opportunities within the growing commercial vehicle market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate sales teams across our Exeter and Plymouth Van Centres
  • Drive performance in new and used van sales
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to increase volumes, profitability and market share
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, fleet customers and commercial vehicle buyers
  • Ensure all sales processes, F&I opportunities and customer interactions are managed to the highest standard
  • Monitor key performance indicators, sales trends and commercial opportunities
  • Support and develop colleagues through coaching, mentoring and performance management
  • Deliver exceptional customer experiences that generate repeat business and customer loyalty
  • Ensure all sales activities are conducted in line with FCA requirements and company policies
  • Manage manufacturer campaigns, promotional activity and local business development initiatives

What We're Looking For

We are looking for an ambitious and commercially focused leader with a proven track record within the automotive industry.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience as a Commercial Sales Manager, Sales Manager, Business Manager or similar leadership role within the motor trade
  • Strong understanding of commercial vehicle sales, fleet sales and business-to-business (B2B) sales
  • Proven ability to drive sales performance and profitability
  • Experience managing, coaching and developing high-performing teams
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills
  • Commercial awareness with a strong focus on customer satisfaction
  • Results-driven mindset with the ability to identify and capitalise on new business opportunities
  • Full UK Driving Licence

You will play a key role in driving a culture of responsible business practices, ensuring we deliver the right products and services to meet our customers’ needs, protect them from harm, and encourage long-term loyalty. Building trust and acting with integrity at all times is fundamental to this role.

To protect our customers and our reputation, successful candidates will be required to undertake a DBS check, along with regular fit and proper person assessments. We will also request references from previous employers as part of our pre-employment checks.
