Job Title: Commercial Specialist – Strategy, Policy and Capability

Locations: Birmingham, Leeds, Hastings or Swansea

Salary: £101,000 - £131,000. GCO Pension, GCO Terms. Up to 20% PRP.

Department for Transport (DfT) are looking for a commercial leader to help lead the Commercial Directorate. This is a Senior Civil Servant (SCS1) post.

You will lead a team of 14 commercial professionals, with direct management of 3 Grade 6 colleagues. You will provide leadership on commercial strategy, policy and capability in central Department for Transport (DfTc) and the wider DfT Group. In this significant role, you will shape and maintain the DfT Group Commercial Strategy, influence central government policy with the Cabinet Office, and drive commercial capability—including guiding the organisation through the Procurement Act 2023 and embedding AI and innovative procurement practices. You will play a central role in delivering a high-performing, compliant and forward-looking commercial function.
