Commercially Minded Depot Manager

Deputy Manager (Logistics) – Lanarkshire Site

About the Role

Developing operational processes to drive growth while overseeing daily logistics and distribution activities within a busy logistics department. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organisational skills, resource management, and a proactive approach to meeting performance goals.

Role Overview

A leading transport and logistics provider across the UK seeks a Depot Manager to oversee day-to-day operations at a national haulage and warehousing hub in North Lanarkshire. The role involves:

  • Managing depot operations while expanding client opportunities to maximise site efficiency
  • Supervising transport and distribution activities to enhance customer satisfaction
  • Ensuring full compliance with company policies, health and safety regulations, and industry standards

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership
    • Supervise and coordinate transport and distribution activities to meet customer expectations
    • Implement strategies to optimise workflow, reduce inefficiencies, and improve logistics processes

  • Compliance & Safety

    • Enforce adherence to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
    • Monitor health and safety compliance across all depot operations
  • Performance & Efficiency

    • Track performance metrics and identify opportunities for process improvements
    • Collaborate with internal teams to optimise resource allocation and cost effectiveness
  • Team Management & Development

    • Lead and motivate depot staff to achieve operational goals and uphold high service standards
    • Address and resolve operational challenges in a timely manner
  • Reporting & Strategic Planning

    • Prepare and present operational reports to senior management
    • Work towards site expansion by leveraging client opportunities and market potential

Qualifications & Experience

A strong candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in transport and distribution operations management, ideally within a General Haulage Business
  • Excellent client engagement skills and a results-driven mindset
  • Deep understanding of logistics processes, compliance requirements, and supply chain dynamics
  • Exceptional leadership and team management abilities
  • Strong problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders
