Commissioning Engineer – 6 Month Contract (Outside IR35)
We are looking for an experienced Network Commissioning Engineer to join our Project Engineering team on a 6-month contract (Outside IR35).
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled network professional to provide 3rd line technical support, network design expertise, and implementation leadership across high-profile customer environments. You will play a key role in delivering complex network solutions, supporting project delivery, and ensuring successful customer outcomes.

🔹 The Role
As a Network Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Providing 3rd line technical support within a specialist engineering environment
- Reviewing and validating implementation plans from Project Engineers
- Designing, building, and deploying network solutions
- Creating detailed configuration scripts across multiple network vendors
- Supporting complex customer network changes, including risk assessments and post-change validation
- Analysing network topology, circuitry, and infrastructure requirements
- Updating network databases and maintaining accurate circuit information
- Working with technologies including Xtran, SDH, PDH, fibre, copper, leased lines, radio, and 4G solutions
- Providing technical leadership and supporting successful project delivery
🔹 What We’re Looking For
You will have strong experience in enterprise networking environments, with expertise in:
- LAN & WAN design and implementation
- Cisco IOS and enterprise routing/switching
- Cisco platforms including 2800, 2900, 3800, 3900, ASR900 routers and Catalyst switching platforms
- Network troubleshooting and complex fault resolution
- Customer-facing technical delivery and stakeholder management
- Producing technical documentation and configuration scripts
- PDH/SDH concepts and telecommunications networks

🔹 Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Proven industry experience within a technology/networking environment
- CCNA or CCDA certification (one acceptable)
- Strong Cisco networking background
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical teams, customers, and senior stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail
🔹 Desirable
- CCNP / CCDP certification
- Experience working in large enterprise, ISP, or carrier environments
- Previous experience in consulting, design, or senior engineering roles
