Commissioning Engineer – Derby, East Midlands
Salary: £55k (with potential to £60k + overtime + benefits)
Location: East Midlands / Derby
About the Role
Our Derby-based client, a 30+ year market leader in innovative integrated systems for the transportation, airport, and power infrastructure sectors, now seeks experienced Commissioning Engineer(s). This growing team is committed to delivering top-tier electrical and control engineering solutions, driving the client’s expansion.
This role offers varied, challenging projects, career growth, and exposure to client-facing test conditions—perfect for those with PLC and control system experience.
Hours: Combined days and nights, with flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
As a Commissioning Engineer, your core duties include:
- Collaborating with the project team and development engineers during commissioning phases
- Facilitating the smooth transfer of projects to the customer
- Ensuring installations meet correct engineering standards before testing begins
- Performing system tests as per the Installation and Commissioning Test Document
- PLC data input testing (validation of operations from plant and field devices to PLCs)
- Field device setup and troubleshooting
- Conduct site acceptance tests, identifying and fixing faults in PLC code or wiring
- Producing technical documentation:
- Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMs)
- Test reports and weekly progress updates
- Regular attendance at:
- Site progress meetings
- Toolbox talks
- Client-facing commissioning demonstrations
- Representing the company professionally during test conditions and handover phases

Requirements
To succeed in this role, you must have:
- At least 2 years’ hands-on commissioning experience (preferably in control systems engineering)
- A recognised qualification equivalent to or above level 3 in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Control Engineering (e.g., City & Guilds Apprenticeship, or equivalent)
- Full, unrestricted UK driving licence required (for site visits)
- No criminal convictions due to strict security clearance policies (airport industry presence)
